With its three-inch barrel and shortened grip, it's a balanced, quick wheelgun that can be brought to bear in an instant. But before I was comfortable carrying it, I had to put in a lot of work. Glad to hear you aren't having any problems with your new 7-shot GP100. Hopefully Ruger fixed the problem or ammo manufacturers have adjusted their tolerances to keep rim diameters well below the 0.440" SAAMi maximum. Please note that I as well as others have experienced rim binding problems with American made ammo in the 7-shot .357 GP100.

Just handling the GP100 gives the impression of solid quality and ruggedness. Everything is strong and well made. Most models have a barrel with full-length underlug, which gives the gun a desirable muzzle-heavy heft. The trigger pull is on the heavy side, but relatively smooth. The action responds well to the attention of a competent pistolsmith.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS. The GP100 is available with a few different barrel options. There is a 3 inch, 4 inch and also a 6 inch barrel. The 4 inch barrel being the one we are using here. This gun is well built. I also have a Stainless Steel Smith & Wesson in 357 Magnum. After handling the Ruger, the Smith feels sub-par.
