Apr 19,  · I've never shot HP5 myself, but in my experience, going from 1+50 Rodinal for 12 minutes in Tri-X rated at EI 320, versus 1+25 Rodinal for 5 minutes, 45 seconds (again rated at EI 320), while keeping consistent temperature and agitation yields very different things. The 1+25 developed film is much grainier and accutance was stronger.

I develop 35mm Tri-X in Rodinal at 1:50 for 12 minutes for normal prints. If I want the results to be a little more contrasty or more grainy I used the 1:25 dilution for about 7 minutes. It is my understanding that lower dilutions (more Rodinal to water) yield more grain. I use the 1:50 dilution for the same time with Tri-X in 120 format.

Ilford HP5 is a medium-speed black and white film with a rich grain structure and an incredible tonal range.
